Max Cameron: Should University Admissions Be Decided on the Basis of a Lottery among Qualified Applicants?

In an op-ed for the Vancouver Sun, Professor Max Cameron (SPPGA Former Acting Director; Political Science), comments on the feasibility of a lottery-based admission process among qualified applicants at the university level. This idea was introduced by Professor Michael Sandel, Harvard Professor, author of The Tyranny of Merit, and a Phil Lind Initiative Speaker for our 2021 series The Anti-Democratic Turn. Professor Sandel’s latest book highlights the problem with an increasingly meritocratic society, particularly in how university admissions perpetuate this issue.
